The Department of Otorhinolaryngology Head and Neck Surgery of the 1st Faculty of Medicine, Charles University and Faculty Hospital Motol in Prague was founded by Prof. Emilian Kaufmann in 1892. This was the first Czech ENT department. From its inception up until 1997, it was located in the General Faculty Hospital of Prague near Charles square. The Department later moved to its present location at Faculty Hospital Motol. During its entire existence, the Department has been the acclaimed leader of Czech otorhinolaryngology in terms of number and scope of therapeutical procedures performed. The ENT Department of Motol Faculty Hospital provides complete patient services involving all surgical procedures concerning ENT and Head and Neck Surgery. The individual surgical procedures performed are further divided into unique or superspecialised operations. This specifically involves oncological surgeries with complex reconstruction; surgery of the skull base, including tumours of the vestibuloacoustic nerves; as well as cochlear- and auditory brainstem neuroimplants for complete bilateral deafness, among others. |
