Surgical procedures

An overview of the surgical procedures provided:

·

Standard procedures in Ear, Nose and Throat (tonsillectomy, adenotomy, tympanostomy, tracheotomy; removal of lymph nodes, skin and subcutaneous tumours, branchial neck cysts and fistulas).
·


Otosurgical procedures (simple or with reconstruction), surgery for otosclerosis, superspecialised procedures – cochlear and auditory brainstem implantation in adults, operation of acoustic neuromas. Pinnaplasty (correction of protruding ears), removal of tumours of the external ear, ear canal, and middle ear.

Laser surgery – microlaryngoscopy assisted with CO2 laser, excision of skin tumours, uvulopalatoplasty. Other treatments available – diode laser.

·

Head and Neck Surgery for malignancies of the oropharynx, hypopharynx, larynx, parapharyngeal space and skull base.
·
All techniques of neck dissection for malignant tumour metastases
·

Reconstruction surgery after disfiguring procedures in the head and neck area (vascularised musculocutaneous flaps, free jejunal grafts with microsurgical vascular anastomosis, gastric pull-up)
·

All procedures used for benign or malignant thyroid disease; parathyroid surgery, endoscopic surgery of the thyroid and parathyroid glands.

Surgery for tracheal stenosis, including resection of the cervical trachea with end to end suture.
·
Surgery for diverticulae of the upper third of the oesophagus; tracheo-oesophageal fistula surgery.
·
Microsurgical endoscopic procedures on the larynx using superimposed high frequency jet ventilation.
·

Operation of tumours of the nose, nasopharynx, and paranasal sinuses (with or without involvement of the orbits, skull base, or neurocranium)
·
Surgery of paranasal inflammatory disesases, including orbital and intracranial complications.
·
Corrective septo/rhinoplasty
·
Functional Endoscopic Sinus Surgery (FESS) of the nose and paranasal sinuses
· Surgery for nasolacrimal duct stenosis – endoscopic dacryorhinostomy.
·

Surgery of tumorous and non-tumorous diseases of the salivary glands: amongst others, superficial and total parotidectomy with facial nerve neuromonitoring and dissection.
·


Examination (sleep polygraphy) and surgery for Sleep Apnea Syndrome and snoring including RFITT (Radiofrequency Induced Thermo Therapy). CPAP (Continuous Positive Airway Pressure) is offered in cooperation with the Department of Pneumology.

Argon Plasma Coagulation of nasal mucosa for hereditary hemorrhagic teleangiectasia
·
Phonosurgery / thyreoplasty, voice prosthesis implantation (primary , secondary)
·
Trauma to the facial skeleton and neck.
·
Endoscopic foreign body removal in the airways and upper GIT.
·
Trans-nasal fibre-optic endoscopy of the oesophagus (Transnasal oesophagoscpy) and bronchoscopy
·

Skull Base Surgery – surgery of the rhinobasis and laterobasis for cancer and other diseases.

Superficial mucosal lesions detection methods: Narrow Band Imaging (NBI), autofluorescence
